Applying for a major adaptation

To apply for a major adaptation, you’ll need an assessment from an Occupational Therapist (OT). The OT will evaluate your ability to perform daily tasks and recommend the necessary adaptations, advise on your eligibility in the process.

To request an assessment, contact your local council, and they will guide you through the process and provide advice on how to proceed.

What happens next?

The Occupational Therapist will visit your home to:

•Assess your difficulties by discussing your situation, observing your home, and seeing how you manage daily tasks.

•Identify areas where you’re struggling and make recommendations for adaptations.

•Visit jointly with the Accessibility Team to review the recommendations, where there may be some complexity.

•Help you apply for alternative housing, which would provide more suitable accommodation to meet your current needs or offer a longer-term solution by providing an adaptable property

•If adaptations are needed, the OT will forward their recommendations to the Accessibility Team to seek landlord permission and assist with the implementation.
