Having access to equipment can support your safety in the home. Equipment can be everyday gadgets and specially designed equipment that can help you complete tasks more easily.
Equipment around the home
Can give you ease and independence minor equipment such as:
•smoke alarms for the hard of hearing
•chair raisers
•bathing board and steps
Can be assessed by Trusted Assessor for Northamptonshire councils’ customers and by the local council for all others.
Specialist equipment
More specialist equipment will only be provided by a community occupational therapist such as:
•bath lifts
•toilet frames
•walking aids
Other Types of equipment
There are lots of items you can purchase yourself to make tasks easier, including:
•kitchen aids – such as non-slip jar and bottle openers or plate clip-ons to prevent you spilling your dinner
•dressing aids – like a long-handled shoehorn or leg lifter
•sitting aids – such as devices that will lift you out of your seat or boost the height of your toilet

Northamptonshire equipment store
All equipment is obtained from the joint Health and Social Care Community Store following an assessment from your Occupational Therapist or Our in-house Trusted Assessor.
Provision is subject to meeting Health and Social Services eligibility criteria. Equipment is provided and installed free of charge.
