We’re pleased to have entered into a contract with Lindum Group for the first stage of our development scheme in Ampthill.
The current buildings on this site, Katherine’s Gardens, an independent living scheme, and Katherine’s House, the home of one of our former offices, will be demolished to make way for 39 new homes that will remain practical for a lifetime. Lindum will manage the demolition and assist Amplius in developing the design further to meet our vision of modern, energy efficient homes for people over 55.
Dave Lakin, Amplius’ Director of Development & Sales, said: “We know there’s a real need for homes that will accommodate our ageing population. And although the properties on this site were popular, they were small and unable to be adapted or accommodate specialist equipment. These new homes, for social rent and shared ownership, have been specially designed to enable adaptations as customers’ needs change.
“There’s space for easy wheelchair access and turning circles, together with wider doorways, and provisions have been made for adaptations, such as strengthened roof joists, to allow for hoists to be installed. Bathrooms will either be wet rooms or have low profile showers, and stairways will be wide enough to accommodate stairlifts.
“Whilst we’re sad to see our old office go, we’re delighted that we can provide Ampthill with high quality, accessible, affordable housing instead.
“Lindum Group have a keen interest in sustainability and experience in delivering high performing energy efficient homes. Combined with our environmentally responsible approach and our priority for energy efficient homes, we’re looking to exceed building regulation requirements and aiming to achieve EPC A.”
Demolition is due to take place from April with the development completing in the winter of 2026.
