Will a swap affect how long I can stay in my home?

This depends on the type of tenancy agreement you and the home you’re swapping with has. 

How long you can stay in your home won’t be affected if both homes have:

• an assured/lifetime tenancy agreement
• any other form of secure, non-shorthold agreement.

How long you can stay in your home might be affected if:

• your tenancy agreement is dated after 1 April 2012
• the home you’re swapping with has a fixed term tenancy
• the home you’re swapping with has any form of shorthold tenancy.
