Asbestos
Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material. It was regularly used in the construction industry until 1999.
For a long time, the dangers of asbestos were not widely known. It is not necessarily a hazard unless it’s damaged or disturbed.
Asbestos only becomes a risk to health if the fibres become airborne and are breathed in. This can damage the lungs.
The most common diseases associated with exposure to asbestos are asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
