Today is World Food Day and this year, the Milton Keynes Food Bank recognised the day by breaking a Guinness World Record with ‘MK Can’.
The food bank asked local businesses and organisations if they could help form a 10km line of food cans around Campbell Park in Milton Keynes, to break the previous world record of 3.28km set in Canada in 2014. The line started at the iconic MK Rose and was made up of 102,447 cans, that’s around half of the food bank’s yearly requirements.
Grand Union wanted to help this worthwhile cause, so we agreed to take part. Colleagues collected over 350 cans of food at our office in Milton Keynes and today, some of those colleagues were in Campbell Park, setting up the line and taking part in this momentous event.
This afternoon, members of the public ‘walked the line’ and enjoyed a range of entertainment on the way, including live music, food and drink stalls and mascot races.
